EP 16 - How The Power of Surrendering Can Help You Live A Better Life

Today’s episode is going to be a very quick and short story. I’m gonna be real with you guys. I had an entire episode planned for today. And even tho I tried everything to make it work, things were just not working out for that episode to be released. Truth is, I had a lot of things to do this week, they piled up, I got overwhelmed and I’d like to believe that this next story I’m going to share with you guys, was trying to show me that I need to slow down so that I can look up.

So, the idea for this new episode came while I was waiting at the doctors office for hours yesterday. You know what I’m talking about, when you have an appointment for 11:15 and they call you in at 12:45... yea, it’s frustrating, right? As I was sitting there I kept getting more and more negative. “How long is this going to take?” “I have so much to do today” etc. I was making myself miserable by thinking this way. People kept going before me. I kept looking at the time. I had already looked at all my socials. I forgot my book at home. You name it, I was annoyed.

I took a few deep breaths and tried to practice meditating, something I have been patiently working on since last year. Reminding myself that we have SO much control over our minds when things happen. This is really hard to do, especially when you’re already in a mood, if you know what I’m talking about, but we ALWAYS have a choice on how we react. Either we make the most of the situation or we make it way worse.

As I was thinking this, I started asking myself. What CAN I do? What IS working? Usually, when I’m home and having an off day, I put some music on and dance around. It instantly betters my mood, but I wasn’t about to get up and dance in the middle of a doctors office.

So I thought — Well, I am truly blessed to be able to be healthy right now and go to a doctors appointment to get checked and remain healthy. That in itself is something to be SO grateful for especially with the last year we had. That instantly made me feel better. Crazy how quickly we forget about the smallest things that make the biggest significance.

So I thought again, I could either choose to sit there and make myself miserable in my frustration or I could decide to open the notes app, and write this episode down. Because even though this isn’t how I planned this episode to go, immediately taking action on what was bothering me, made me feel productive and took some pressure off.

This isn’t to toot my own horn, it’s to share with you guys, as I alway say, that I too am learning as I go in everything I do. Yea, I’m proud of making an annoying situation, a better one, and if I can inspire a new way of thinking for someone else, that to me, is a huge accomplishment. It’s what I’ve always wanted with this podcast. A way to connect and a way to inspire. Really, our minds are everything. There is so much power In surrendering, in changing the story, in focusing on how to change our reaction. So, for today’s episode I wanna leave you with this quote:

“Sometimes it’s not the times you decide to fight, but the times you decide to surrender, that make all the difference.”

I was fighting and decided to surrender and it truly made all the difference not only in those moments while I was waiting but in my entire day. I was able to have another outlook. And truthfully if we can control our minds, we can control how we live our lives. I hope this inspires you to think in a new way. And when you are faced with things that are annoying or frustrating, no matter how big or small those things may be, that you can see how your reaction will change everything. I hope you guys like this episode and that it soothes you the way that it did for me.
