EP 72 - 5 Things To Do When You're In a Rut

Hi Amigos!

Here’s today’s episode transcript: I think that when we're in the rut phase, it's there for us to kind of take a step back and really look at what we're doing. Is this still something we really want? How are we feeling? It's a, it's a moment of just kind of collecting yourself and then the phases. When you're really inspired and creative, it's a moment for you to really indulge and experience that and have fun and enjoy it.

Hi, I am Eagles. Welcome back to another episode of The Journey of Pursue Podcast. Today's episode is one that I myself needed. Just a few days ago, and when I need something, I figure that maybe also my community needs it because we're all creatives and we're all going through this thing called a journey.

So here today, on today's podcast, we are gonna be talking about the five things you can do when you hit a rut and a rut can happen to anyone at. Anytime. And for me it kind of happens out of the blue and it lingers for a few days, maybe even more sometimes. And honestly it can be really frustrating and demotivating.

But not to worry. We're gonna talk through some great tips to help you get back on track. Before we dive into the episode though, I wanna quickly talk to you guys about a few changes that are coming to the Patreon community. So, as you know, I have a Patreon community where before the idea was kind of to really connect with like-minded people that loved positive podcasts and books, and we could talk about motivation, and I would do Motivational Mondays and I would write a lot of the PDFs, almost like notes of different podcast episodes I would listen to.

And I felt really inspired by. . But ever since I started the Patreon community, I've gotten a lot of feedback and I've learned a lot. Something we talk about a lot on the show is that idea of trial and error, figuring things out as you go, taking messy action, and that's exactly what I did when I started my Patreon community, and now that I've been creating this content since October, I know what's working and I know it's not working.

I also have gotten great feedback from my community, so thank you so much. C. So what's gonna be coming to this Patreon revamp? Well, you're basically going to be getting all the content I create at an exclusive level. You guys get the behind the scenes first. Look at pretty much everything I create. So with music, you're gonna be getting exclusive live concerts, live q and as, as well as being the first to listen to any original music I write.

For the podcast, you'll be getting exclusive solo pod episodes, as well as I'm going to be inviting the guests for an after show special, which basically just means that you get to ask them any question you want from their episode. If you're like, Dre, oh no, you didn't ask them this, or I wanna know more about this, then you can ask them on those calls.

A few extra things I have in mind for the Patreon community. I don't wanna keep this too long. Recaps of my trips, for example, I'm going to LA next week and I'm definitely gonna be including some behind the scenes on the Patreon community from that as well as you guys get discounts on all of the eBooks I've been mentioning here and there on this show.

So what to do in my, the coffee shops to visit here, the vintage stores. , all of that good stuff. You guys get discounts just from solely being in the Patreon community. That's just a snippet of what I have in mind for the Patreon community. This revamp is something I've been wanting to do for quite some time, and I've thought a lot about it, and so there's also gonna be things like fashion and links and little things that you guys ask me here and there, but the Patreon community is gonna be getting all these exclusive content.

If this sounds like something that you're interested in, if you wanna be a part of this community, you can find the link below and sign up. All these changes will be made in. Okay, so what is a rut? Let's define it. A rut is a feeling of being stuck in a routine or a situation where you feel like you're not making any progress.

And it can happen in different areas of life, such as work relationships or even personal growth. So here are the five things to do when you hit a rut. And like I said, I've actually tried these myself and they've worked for me, so I hope they work for. The first thing you should do when you hit a rut is take a break.

Sometimes we get so caught up in our routines that we forget to take a step back and recharge. So take some time off work, go on a vacation, or simply spend some time doing something you enjoy. This will help you clear your mind gain perspective, and come back with a fresh start. You can actually check out episode number 71, which is the one before this about my mini staycation where I took.

This advice and it actually really helped me. Something about just separating yourself from your day-to-day really helps you gain that perspective that you might need, especially when you're in a rut. The second thing to do is try something new. A rut can happen when we get way too comfortable in our routines.

Kind of like what I was saying before, that I needed that staycation cause I needed that separation. So trying something new, whether it's a new hobby or a new challenge, can actually. Break the monotony and stimulates your mind. This can actually also lead to new opportunities and help you get out of that cycle that you've been in.

The third thing is to reflect on your goals. Sometimes we can get stuck because we lose sight of our goals and why we're doing what we're doing. So take some time to reflect on your goals, what motivates you and what do you need to achieve. This can help you realign your focus and get back on track. An exercise I do that helps me is taking out a piece of.

And writing down all of the things I need to do, then you're gonna grab a different colored pen and you're gonna start starring the things on the list that will actually get you closer to your dreams and your goals. So when you look at this list, you have to ask yourself like, what really is going to move the needle here For me, it's probably not gonna be like scrolling and getting inspired by social media.

It's probably gonna be something. Get to that email or follow up with that person, whatever that may be, that's what you have to focus on. The fourth thing is to seek support. It can be hard to see the way out sometimes, and so seeking support from friends, family, or even a mentor really can help talk to someone who has been through a similar situation and can provide guidance or encouragement, and also be open and know that this happens to everyone.

The reason I decided to do this podcast episode is because this happens to. All the time. I hit a point sometimes where I don't know what the right next step is. I'm just stuck in a cycle, and so chances are that if I feel this way, another creative feels this way. And so that's why I'm doing this podcast episode because I wanna help you and some of these things have really helped me.

So just know that you're not alone and seeking support is completely normal and is really. I also wanna add that a rut is temporary. And so, although in the moment it feels like you don't know how to get out, you don't know what to do, you're not really sure what the next step is. It's temporary. This soon shall pass.

You will find a way to get out of it. You will find the right next move and everything will be okay again. It's very important, I think, to remember that those moments of overwhelm, those moments of that cycle in your head, of repeating the same things over and over again to yourself, whether it be mentally or.

The things that you're doing, just like a cycle of your to-dos, just know that this is a part of the journey. This is a phase, and you will also have a phase where you are very inspired and you're getting everything done on your to-do list and you don't feel demotivated. And so these phases are here for a reason.

I think that when we're in the rut phase, It's there for us to kind of take a step back and really look at what we're doing. Is this still something we really want? How are we feeling? It's a, it's a moment of just kind of collecting yourself and then the phases. When you're really inspired and creative, it's a moment for you to really indulge and experience that and have fun and enjoy it.

The fifth and final thing you can do is something that we talk on the podcast a lot and it actually goes hand in hand. Tip number three or the third thing that we talked about, which is just take action. Sometimes we can get so caught up in analyzing the situation and we get stuck in that cycle that's in our mind, that we forget to just do something.

And we talk a lot about this on the podcast of taking one small messy action because it's so much better to take a small, messy action then no action at all. And chances are when you take an action, you start realizing what's working, what's not working, and then you just kind of pivot from there. So take.

So there you have it. Five things to do when you hit a rut. Remember, a rut is a temporary situation and with the right mindset and actions, you can overcome it. Everything will be okay. I promise. This is just a phase and you will soon be on the other side where you will be creative and inspired and you will be nonstop.
